Sub: Footwear & Leather Products SEZ Park – promoted by SIPCOT near Chennai

As you are aware, State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) is promoting a Footwear SEZ Park as part of the Indian Leather Development Programme (ILDP). The Park is being established at SIPCOT Industrial Park at Irungattukottai, located at a distance of about 34 Kms from Chennai. This Park is adjacent to the Footwear Component Park. The total area of the SEZ Park is 153.65 acres. Out of this, 100 acres is for allotment to the investors for setting up of their manufacturing units.

In this background, SIPCOT vide letter dated April 9, 2009 informed the Council that Footwear SEZ Park has been changed to Footwear and Leather Products SEZ Park.Thus, interested entrepreneurs can now set up units in the Park to produce Footwear as well as Leather Products such as leather garments, leather goods & accessories, gloves etc. As of April 9, 2009, SIPCOT has given in-principle allotment of plots to 10 companies, for a total area of 25 acres. Thus, remaining land of 75 acres is available for allotment to the interested companies which wish to set up their production units to make footwear and other leather products. The allotment will be on lease basis, and will for a period of 99 years. The cost of land at present in the Park is Rs.60 Lakh per acre.
