BSM in South Africa, March 2016

Sub : Two Day Buyer Seller Meet in Cape Town, South Africa during March 8-9, 2016

Members are kindly aware that South Africa ranks first among the African countries in terms of its leather and leather products imports. As per the ITC statistics, South Africa’s imports had increased from US$ 674.75 million in 2009 to US$ 1154.64 million in 2013 growing at a CAGR of 14.37%. South Africa also ranks first among the African countries importing a substantial value of leather and leather products from India. India’s exports to South Africa had increased from US$ 24.59 million in 2009 to US$ 55.63 million in 2014.

Hence, considering the import potential of South Africa and our increasing trend in export to this potential market, with a view to further enhancing our export share in South Africa, the Council is organizing a Two-Day Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) in the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) Cape Town, South Africa during March 8-9, 2016 in association with the Indian Mission.

As per the advice of the Indian Mission, a suitable Marketing Agency would be engaged by the Council to carry out Event Publicity and Buyer Mobilization Campaign targeting the participation of maximum number of potential South African Buyers of Leather & Leather Products.

The Council is aiming to mobilize participation of 30 exporters, so as to make it a large show featuring display of wide range of leather & leather Products (Leather Garments, Leather Goods/Accessories, Footwear, including Non-Leather Footwear, Leather Gloves and Finished Leather). Since the event is funded under Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme of Govt. of India, taking into consideration the estimated expenditure and MAI assistance, the commitment fee has been nominally fixed at Rs. 60,000/- per company.

In this background, I request all Member Exporters to consider participating in the BSM in South Africa for exploring the possibilities of further enhancing India’s export of leather and leather products to this potential market.

Interested Members may confirm their participation by sending the filled-in Application Form along with the Participation Fee of Rs. 60,000/- through a Cheque/DD drawn in favour of Council for Leather Exports to the nearest Regional/ Extension Offices of the Council on or before 10th December, 2015 to enable the Council to finalize the list of participants and undertake all the required logistic and marketing arrangements in advance.
Since Council can move ahead with the programme only after getting the required number of participants, an early response is requested. Participation will be confirmed purely on first-come-first serve basis.
