Dear Members,
Sub :   Two-Day Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) in Cape Town, South Africa during March 8-9, 2017

Members are kindly aware that South Africa ranks first among the African countries in terms of its leather and leather products imports. As per the ITC statistics, South Africa’s imports had increased from US$ 913.87 million in 2010-11 to US$ 1109.85 million in 2014-15 growing at a CAGR of 4.98%.   South Africa also ranks first among the African countries importing a substantial value of leather and leather products from India.  India’s exports to South Africa had increased from US$ 32.13 million in 2010-11 to US$ 52.86 million in 2015-16.

Hence, considering the import potential of South Africa and our increasing trend in export to this potential market, with a view to further enhancing our export share, the Council is organizing a Two-Day Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) in the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC)   Cape Town, South Africa during March 8-9, 2017 in association with the Consulate General of India, Cape Town.

Council’s last BSM (March, 2016) held in Cape Town:

CLE has organized a BSM in Cape Town International Convention Centre on 8^th & 9^th March, 2016, in which, 26 member-exporters  of the Council participated and displayed their latest collections of leather footwear, non-leather footwear, leather goods, industrial safety Gloves and finished leather.  More than 200 buyers visited the BSM during the show days. Representatives of leading companies of South Africa like Ideals, Apeco (Pty) Ltd, Fems International, Jumbo Footwear, Pienaar Bros., Plum Footwear, WAM, Designer Shoe Outlet, Grand Shoe, Extol and Edgars Stores Ltd. had visited the BSM held in Cape Town. Buyers from Johannesburg and Durban also visited our BSM, by availing the complimentary return airfare package offered by the Council.

Council has availed the services of M/s Leaders in Trade Exhibitions, Cape Town (Ms. Deidre Harte) as the Management Agency for conducting the BSM including buyer’s mobilization in March, 2016.  Taking into account the satisfactory performance of the Marketing Agency, based on the recommendation from our Mission, we are retaining their services for our BSM in March, 2017 also.

The Council is aiming to mobilize participation of 40 exporters in the March, 2017 BSM, so as to make it a large show featuring display of wide range of leather & leather Products (Leather Garments, Leather Goods/Accessories, Footwear, including Non-Leather Footwear, Footwear Components, Leather Gloves and Finished Leather).  Since the event is funded under Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme of Govt. of India, taking into consideration the estimated expenditure and MAI assistance, the commitment fee has been nominally fixed at Rs. 40,000/-  (rupees forty thousand only) per company.  The participants will be given a built-up stand of 9 sq.mtrs. (3×3) along with necessary display accessories (shelves, rods, name fascia, spotlights etc.) for displaying their exhibits.

In this background, we request all Member Exporters to consider participating in the BSM in South Africa for exploring the possibilities of further enhancing India’s export of leather and leather products to this potential market.

Interested Members may confirm their participation by sending the filled-in Application Forms (sent herewith) along with the Participation Fee of Rs. 40,000/- through a Cheque/DD drawn in favour of Council for Leather Exports to the nearest Regional/ Extension Offices of the Council on or before 15^th December, 2016 to enable the Council to finalize the list of participants and undertake all the required logistic and marketing arrangements in advance.

Participation will be confirmed purely on ‘first-come-first serve’ basis.
