Sub: Indian Standards (IS) for Footwear products revised by BIS – Inputs/Comments on this sought by DPIIT, Govt of India – reg.
As members are aware, the Bureau of Indian Standards has revised the Indian Standards in respect of following Footwear Products as detailed below:

In respect of Derby Shoes IS 17043: 2018, it was clarified by BIS that QCO shall not apply to Derby Shoes for civilian use as of now and it will be applicable only for Police / Military use.
Please refer to the CLE circular dated 12.07.2023 in which the above revision was intimated to all members of the Council.
In continuation to above, the BIS has now prepared the current status statement on the revision of these Indian Standards and the same is attached herewith for your perusal.
Vide E-mail dated 28.08.2023, the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Govt of India has desired the Council to circulate the above revision details to the members of the footwear industry and has sought the comments / inputs of the footwear industry in this matter.
The Council requests the members to kindly do the following:
· You may go through the attached brief statement of BIS and the Indian Standards of above mentioned 5 Footwear Products. These Indian Standards are available in BIS portal: www.bis.gov.in and also in CLE website: www.leatherindia.org
· After perusal, you may send your specific comments / inputs if any to CLE by Email: cle@cleindia.com , dd-p.t@cleindia.com on or before 7th September 2023.
This will enable the CLE to consolidate all the comments / inputs of the footwear industry and submit the same to DPIIT, Govt of India.
