Sub : Inspection of export consignments of Leathers at Chennai Customs
Dear Sir,
As you are kindly aware, export consignments of finished leather, wet blue and EI tanned leather are subject to inspection system as per procedure notified vide Customs Instructions No. 450/39/2012- Cus. IV dated 16th April 2013 and DGFT Public Notice No. 23 dated 13th August 2013 , as amended by DGFT Public Notice no. 24 dated Sept. 5, 2013, Public Notice no. 38 dated Nov. 20, 2013 and No. 43 dated 28.10.2015.
The Chennai Customs has issued a Facility Circular No. 29/2016 dated 28.12.2016 (copy enclosed) notifying the following revised schedule of inspection of leathers.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday – CWC VIRUGAMBAKKAM
Wednesday – TRIWAY CFS
Monday, Wednesday & Thursday – ICD CONCOR
As per the aforesaid Facility Circular No. 29/2016 dated 28.12.2016, the aforementioned revised inspection schedule will come into effect from 1.1.2017 onwards on trial basis. Also, the schedule will be reviewed after two months and thereafter, the inspection will be restricted to one Customs location per day based on the traffic of the export consignments registered at the Customs locations concerned.
The aforesaid Facility Circular No. 29/2016 dated 28.12.2016 also mentions in detail about procedure for assessment and examination of the export consignments of leathers.
CLRI officials will be available for inspection at the concerned Customs locations as per revised inspection schedule mentioned above from 1.1.2017 onwards.
