Analysis of Export Performance of Leather and Leather Products during April 2014 vis-a-vis April 2013
1.0 Introduction:
As per officially notified DGCI& S monthly export data, the export of Leather and Leather products for the month April 2014 touched US$ 470.28mnas against the performance of US$ 366.06 mn in April 2013, recording a positive growth of 28.47%. In rupee terms, the export touched Rs. 28384.44mn in April 2014 as against Rs. 19904.57 mn registering a positive growth of 42.60%.

1.1 Major Highlights:
In Rupee Terms, export of leather & leather products have shown positive growth in all the product segments in April 2014.
In Dollar Terms, export of leather & leather products have shown positive growth in all the product segments in April 2014.
Country-wise analysis
The major markets for Indian Leather & Leather Products are Germany with a share of 11.73%, USA 10.03%, U.K. 10.86%, Italy 9.03%, France 5.43%, Hong Kong 8.01%, Spain 5.37%, Netherlands 2.79%, China 3.33%, Denmark 1.24%, UAE 3.92%, Belgium 2.13%,
These 12 countries together accounts for nearly74% of India’s total leather& leather products export.
Export of leather & leather products to major markets like Germany, USA, UK, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Canada, S. Africa, Japan, Portugal, UAE, China, Belgium have shown positive growth in April 2014.

As per the Port-wise / Region-wise compilation for the period April 2014 vis-à-vis April 2013, export of leather & leather products from all the Regions have shown positive export trends

4.0 Conclusion:
The export of Leather and Leather products for the month April 2014 touched US$ 470.28mnas against the performance of US$ 366.06 mn in April 2013, recording a positive growth of 28.47%.
Export of different categories of Footwear holds a major share of about 44% in India’s total leather & leather Products exports with an export value of US$ 205.26 mn. This is followed by Leather Goods & Accessories with a share of 23%, Finished Leather 25%, Leather Garments 6% and Saddlery & Harness 2%.
