Sub : Import of leather and leather products into India – Animal Quarantine Clearance – reg
Dear Sir,
As members are kindly aware, as per Notification No. 2666 (E) dated 16/10/2014 issued by Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Govt. of India (copy enclosed), hides, skins and leathers can be imported into India only through designated sea ports or airports located at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad wherein Animal Quarantine Stations are located. Also hides, skins and leathers import are subject to issue of NOC by the local Animal Quarantine & Certification station.
The Department of Animal Husbandry, Diary & Fisheries has now issued a Notification No.S.O.948(E) dated 22/3/2017 (copy enclosed) amending some import conditions. The details of amendments made and our remarks are given below.

| Provided also that Livestock Products listed at Serial Numbers (xv) to (xxiv) and (xxv) to (xxx), of Para 1 shall be allowed to import into India through the sea port or land port, as the case may be, located at Atari (Punjab), Raxaul (Bihar), Sunauli Land Custom Station, Jogbani (Bihar) and Kandla under the jurisdiction of respective Animal Quarantine and Certification Stations in New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. | This amendment facilitates import of certain items including Tanned or crust hides and skins, finished leather, chamois leather, composition leather, tanned or dressed fur skins as well as leather goods, leather garments, saddlery & harness sea port or land port through Atari (Punjab), Raxaul (Bihar), Sunauli Land Custom Station, Jogbani (Bihar) and Kandla under the jurisdiction of respective Animal Quarantine and Certification Stations in New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. |
| Provided also that the Livestock Products listed at Serial numbers (i) to (xxxi) shall be allowed to import through seaport or airports of Kochi, Krishnapatnam, Vishakhapatnam, Mundra and land port of Agartala (Tripura) as per the conditions prescribed for import of such livestock products in the notification of Government of India, number S.O.2666(E), dated 17th October 2014 and such import shall be looked after by the Regional Officer or Quarantine Officer at Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. | This amendment facilitates import of certain items including Tanned or crust hides and skins, finished leather, chamois leather, composition leather, tanned or dressed fur skins as well as leather goods, leather garments, saddler & harness, raw hides & skins, raw fur skins can be imported through sea ports or airports of Kochi, Krishnapatnam, Vishakhapatnam, Mundra and land port of Agartala (Tripura) |
