To: Members of the Council

Dear Sirs,

Sub: MNRE-GEF-UNIDO Project – Solar Energy

We wish to inform you that United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in association with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India is implementing the project titled ‘Promoting Business Models for increasing Penetration and scaling up of Solar Energy’ in India. To support commercialization of solar technologies, the project plans to facilitate the installation of concentrating solar collector systems for use in heating and cooling applications in the industrial process applications through demonstration and replication projects. UNIDO has partnered with Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) to develop and implement an innovative finance/ loan scheme to further promote the deployment of Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) projects in India for heating and cooling applications in selected industrial sectors to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The project Fact-Sheet is attached herewith for your perusal. The currently available financial incentives are given in the Project Fact Sheet (page 2).

UNIDO invites Expression of Interest from industrial units interested in using solar energy for process heat applications (heating, cooling or solar assisted liquid effluent treatment etc.). The EOI Format is attached herewith. Interested members may send their Expression of Interest as per attached Format to the UNIDO Email: a.sharma@unido.org under cc to p.kumar@unido.org.

Your EOI will be studied by UNIDO to check the feasibility and cost viability of a solar system for your application, which after acceptance will be required to be followed up by a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

For any queries, interested members may contact Shri Ashish Kumar Sharma, Technical Expert at UNIDO, New Delhi by Email IDs mentioned above and Tel: +91 11 2460 7120.  A copy of your email(s) to UNIDO may be marked to CLE at dd-ifladp@cleindia.com  for our information.

Members may take note of the above and if interested, may kindly take it forward with the assistance and technical support of UNIDO.

With warm regards,

R. SELVAM, IAS
Executive Director
